On the ninth day of intensifying conflict, Iran and Israel continue to exchange missile and drone strikes while diplomatic avenues remain frozen. The Iranian government has firmly ruled out any possibility of restarting nuclear negotiations until Israel halts its military offensive, further deepening the regional crisis.
Strikes on Nuclear Infrastructure
Overnight, Israel launched targeted airstrikes on a nuclear site in Isfahan, central Iran. Local media reported loud explosions as Iranian air defenses responded. Though no radioactive leaks were confirmed, the strike signals an escalation in Israel's strategy to degrade Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
Simultaneously, Israel's Defense Forces announced the successful interception of multiple Iranian drones and missiles aimed at Israeli territory, including areas near the West Bank and Syrian border.
Iran’s Diplomatic Stance: No Talks Under Fire
Speaking after a high-level meeting in Geneva with EU, UK, German, and French diplomats, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated Tehran’s refusal to engage in further diplomatic negotiations under current conditions.

“We are only ready to consider diplomacy once aggression is stopped and those responsible are held accountable,” said Araghchi, emphasizing Iran’s right to self-defense and its non-negotiable military capabilities.
The meeting in Geneva lasted over three hours but failed to deliver a diplomatic breakthrough. While European ministers remain hopeful that dialogue can resume, tensions are being driven further by ongoing Israeli offensives and retaliatory Iranian actions.
A Major Blow: Senior IRGC Commander Killed
Adding to the already charged atmosphere, Israel confirmed the killing of Saeed Izadi, a senior commander of Iran’s Quds Force, in a targeted strike on an apartment in Qom. Izadi was believed to be instrumental in arming Hamas prior to the October 7 attacks.
Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz described the operation as "justice for the murdered and the hostages," reinforcing Tel Aviv's resolve to continue targeting senior Iranian operatives linked to regional militancy.
The Global Stakes: US Role Looms
The White House confirmed that President Trump will decide within two weeks whether the US should take direct military action. While Washington supports a diplomatic solution, officials have stressed that military options remain on the table if the situation worsens.
UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy described the moment as “perilous,” urging restraint and a return to dialogue, while recognizing that the window for diplomacy may be rapidly closing.
