Israel Targets Iran's Isfahan Nuclear Site, Strikes Ignite Fires in Tel Aviv
In a dramatic escalation of hostilities, Israeli warplanes struck Iran's nuclear enrichment facility in Isfahan province overnight, prompting Iranian air defenses to respond. Local Iranian officials confirmed there were no radiation leaks following the attack. Smoke was visible near the mountainous area outside Isfahan, raising tensions as the Iran-Israel conflict enters its second week.
This marks the second strike on Isfahan and is part of a broader Israeli campaign that has so far claimed the lives of over 430 people in Iran and injured thousands more, according to Iranian authorities. Meanwhile, Israel reported 24 deaths from Iranian missile attacks, with buildings ablaze in Tel Aviv due to falling debris from intercepted projectiles.
Iranian media also reported Israeli attacks on a military base in Shiraz, Fars province, while in Qom, a senior IRGC official, Saeed Izadi — head of the Quds Force’s Palestine Corps — was allegedly killed in an Israeli airstrike. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz hailed the operation as a significant intelligence success, citing Izadi’s alleged role in arming Hamas before the October 2023 assault on Israel.
Despite ongoing back-channel diplomatic discussions between Tehran and Washington on Iran’s nuclear enrichment program, Israel maintains its stance that preemptive action is necessary to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. However, both the IAEA and U.S. intelligence have consistently stated there is no evidence Iran is currently building a bomb, although uranium enrichment levels have raised international concern.
Tehran continues to express willingness for dialogue through international platforms like the United Nations, though Iranian officials demand global recognition of Israel’s actions as acts of aggression. On the ground, the humanitarian toll continues to rise, with mass displacement in Tehran and growing instability across the region.
